Cycle List and Details

The place in the app to record the details about your bike.

Cycle List

Cycle listing of all bikes.

This allows you to list all the cycles you own or have owned in the past.

Top tips:

  • Swipe left to see detailed usage of parts on the bike.
  • Tap on the description area to edit the cycle.details.
  • Tap on the usage summary to see a more detailed breakdown.
  • Tap on the maintenance history to maintain the cycle.
  • Click the "hamburger" menu symbol beside each bike to show a menu leading to parts usage, details and PDF report on the cycle.
  • Usage summary for the bike is taken from the rides. It is calculated at the time of showing it, so any changes are immediately reflected on the screens.
  • Maintenance history summary noting what parts have been added and removed.

Detailed Usage

Shows the usage of any part used on the bike

Top tips:

  • Items currently on the bike are shown first.
  • Usage is based on any ride that has been done with the part fitted to the bike.
  • To keep the app easy to use, it will not stop you fitting a part onto a bike that has been fitted later to this or another bike. This screen will highlight errors where a part is on another bike at the same time which can then be easily fixed.
  • use usage information to highlight potential issues and resolutions to problems you are having on your bike.
  • Lists mechanical issues you have had in one place to highlight patterns.

Fields on screen:

  • Summary of cycle,
  • Summary of cycle usage: distance (km or miles as per settings), duration (hours & minutes), first and last rides, ride count.
  • For each component installed on the bike, icon for the part, part name, distance (km or miles as per settings), duration (hours & minutes), first and last rides, first and last fitted to the cycle, ride count. If the component is still installed on the bike, it is highlighted.

Cycle Details

Use this screen to store information about your bikes

Top tips:

  • Add bikes by pressing the add button which will clear the screen ready to enter new details
  • You can change any details, including name and description or a bike - there is a hidden key to identify a record.
  • Only tell it what you know and what you need.
  • You can go back later and change things. This is not accounting software!
  • Don't delete bikes except if you have added by mistake. If you have stopped using a bike, then retire it, so that old ride information can still be related to the bike.
  • The details help refine diagnostic information but it is not required. It is also used to link parts to replacement suggestions.
  • You can link a bike to your Strava equipment after you have connected to Strava. Any old rides downloaded will be found, and any future rides will automatically be linked using this information.

Fields on the screen:

  • Cycle name - a short name that you know your cycle by (e.g. Specialized).
  • Description - a fuller description (e.g. Specialized Allez Sport Ultegra)
  • Form - the form of the cycle - BMX, Road, Cross etc.
  • Brake type - the type of brakes - disc, caliper (rim) or hub.
  • Brake mechanism - Cable pull or hydraulic.
  • Gear type - derailleur, single speed, hub (e.g. Sturmey Archer).
  • Gear mechanism - cable or electronic.
  • Suspension - full, hard tail (front fork suspension), none (typical for road b ikes).
  • Bottom bracket - really, don't worry too much about this, cheaper bikes tend to have square taper, road bikes either outboard or press-fit,
  • Link to Strava - if you have enabled Strava and downloaded rides, the rides will be marked with the Strava name for the bike. Choose one to link to this cycle. It is not permanent, so you can reset this at any time. Having saved the linked name, the rides will then immediately count towards the usage of this bike.
  • Retired? - marks a cycle as no longer being used, but allows all the data about this bike still to be associated with it. If you delete a cycle, ride data is still kept, but information about usage and parts used on the cycle will no longer be counted.
  • eBike? - has this bike got an electric motor. Used for diagnosis.
  • Load picture? Use this to load a thumbnail of the cycle if you wish. The app will downgrade it so it takes a small amount of room so there are no limits on the size of picture you select. The app uses the Gallery of your phone, so it may depend on what the Gallery shows as to what photos you can select (e.g. not all galleries can access Google Photos).

With some exceptions, Pocket CycleTech only saves data when you ask it to. The save and cancel buttons are always on the bottom of the screen but may be hidden on some formats and need to be scrolled down to. The delete button is normally on the menu bar (but on small screens might be relegated to the menu), but should rarely be needed. All other options are accessed by pressing the "hamburger" menu symbol on the top right of the screen.

Use the + in circle at the bottom right of the screen to add new entries.

If you are in "Create" mode, pressing the green save button at the bottom of the screen will attempt to save the new record. Internally it will acquire a new hidden identifier. If you are modifying a record, the record will be saved to the same place as it was read from.

However, if there is anything wrong with the record (for example, the name or description is left blank) an error will be shown on the screen and nothing will have been saved.

The command is only available if data has been changed on the screen.

If you decide you don't want to save a change, then leave the screen or press the red cancel button to reload the original data.

The cycle list will be updated.

Delete removes the record and any links to other information on the system (e.g. rides, Strava gear). Before deletion, you will be given an Are you sure? prompt.

Please be sure, there is no Undo!

Maintain cycle

Leaves the maintenance screen to allow you to add and remove components to the bike.

Note that it will be disabled if you have not saved the information on the screen.

Can also be accessed from the list of cycles.
